Timothy F. Cook
President
Tim joined Velco in January 1981. In the same year, he incorporated the agency and became its first President. He then developed an efficient and pragmatic approach to claims' processing and follow-up, which has become Velco's hallmark. Even today, Tim personally oversees Velco's claims department.
Tim has been an active member of the insurance community for many years. He served as a Director on the Boards of the Baltimore (BAHU) and Maryland (MAHU) Association of Health Underwriters, ascending to President of each from 1990-92 and 1993-94, respectively. He was the recipient of the coveted Maryland AHU “Health Underwriter of the Year” award in 1992.
Tim is in great demand as a speaker on Medicare and Long-Term Care for insurance associations and consumer groups, and a frequent guest speaker on radio talk shows
Elizabeth C. Braid
VP of Marketing
Beth began working at Velco as a part-time clerk in 1989, and later became the full-time office manager. She also handled claims filing and licensing. In 1997, she became a full-time Life & Health Insurance Agent, and, due to her expertise and extraordinary perseverance, she became a principal in 2002.
Ms. Braid specializes in the under-65 major medical market, short-term medical plans, small group markets, Medicare supplementary plans, Medicare Advantage (MAPD) and Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (PDP).
Ms. Braid graduated from the University of Baltimore in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing, and she was awarded the prestigious Wall Street Journal Award for Marketing in 1996.
Diane L. Mahoney
Vice President
Diane is the Vice President of Velco Insurance Agency, Inc., the oldest full-service elder care insurance agency in the Medicare Supplementary Field.
Diane joined Velco in 1989, and has gained personal and professional experience assisting the senior population with their decision making process. She offers personalized assistance to seniors and their families to make complicated informational choices relating to Medicare and Long-term Care protection.
Diane earned her Long Term Care Insurance Specialist (LTCIS) designation in 2002. She is a dedicated member of the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) at all levels – local, state and national, and has also been an award-winning association volunteer since 1979.
Barbara Freilich
Client Services
Barbara joined the Velco family in 2017 after retiring from the Financial Services Industry where she served her clients for over 37 years.
Barbara distinguished herself as a speaker: Seminars and strategies for Pension Plans, Retirement Planning, and Financial Planning for business owners, and individuals. She has written about retirement and finances for the Maryland Business and Living Magazine and other topics for other publications.
Barbara is the proud recipient of the 2015 Award Winner Baltimore Five Star Wealth Manager and the 2015 The Wall Street Journal Five Star Wealth Managers You Need to Know.
